About this product
Pull the dead stuff out and let your lawn breathe.
A manual dethatching rake with 19 curved carbon steel tines, an adjustable head angle and a four-section handle you set to your height.
A lawn that looks thin and patchy is often choked by thatch, the mat of dead grass sitting between the green blades and the soil. Water and feed cannot get through it. This rake pulls it out.
It has 19 curved carbon steel tines, double-sided so one side rakes thatch and debris and the other loosens soil for seeding. The head angle adjusts, the four-section stainless handle sets to your height, and it comes apart for the shed. No cord, no petrol.

Nothing to plug in, nothing to fuel. Do a section at a time, rake up the thatch, compost it, and watch the lawn thicken over the next few weeks.

Pulling thatch, the mat of dead grass, out of a lawn so water, air and feed reach the roots. It also clears leaves and debris and loosens soil for seeding.
How do I know my lawn needs dethatching?
Push a finger into the turf. If there is a spongy brown layer more than a centimetre thick between the green and the soil, that is thatch and it is time.
What do I get?
The rake head with 19 tines and a four-section stainless steel handle. It comes in parts and goes together without tools.
How do I use it?
Set the head angle, build the handle to a comfortable height, and pull the rake towards you in short strokes across the lawn. Rake up the loosened thatch and compost it.
What is the other side of the head for?
Loosening soil. Flip the head to the soil side before you overseed or feed, so the seed and fertiliser get into the ground.
Is it hard work?
It is a manual rake, so yes, you will feel it on a big lawn. Do it in sections. The adjustable handle and angle take most of the strain off your back.
What is it made of?
A carbon steel head, heat-treated and powder-coated to resist rust, on a stainless steel handle in four sections.
How much does it cost?
$139. Delivery is free once your order is $60 or more, so a single order qualifies.
Are there other sizes or options?
One rake is listed. The handle adjusts, so one size suits most people.
What do the photos show?
The rake assembled and in use. Lawn and garden props are not included.
Which specs should I check before I buy?
The 19 double-sided tines, the adjustable head angle and the four-section handle. If anything is unclear, ask us first.
How many do I need?
One. Set the quantity on this page or in your basket.
Can I order more than one?
Yes. Set the quantity on this page or change it in your basket.
When should I dethatch?
When the grass is actively growing, so it recovers fast. Spring or early autumn suit most NZ lawns. Avoid the height of summer or a wet winter.
Will it damage the lawn?
It pulls out dead material and some live grass with it, which is normal. The lawn looks rough for a week or two and comes back thicker.
Any safety tips?
Wear gloves and closed shoes, keep the tines away from feet, and check the handle sections are locked before you start.
What if the ground is hard?
Water the lawn the day before so the soil gives a little. Do not try to rake thatch out of bone-dry, rock-hard turf.
How do I look after it?
Knock the grass off the tines, wipe the head, and store it dry. Take the handle apart if space is tight.
Does it come assembled?
No. The handle is in four sections for shipping. It slots together in a minute without tools.
Can I check it will suit my lawn before I buy?
Yes. Tell us the lawn size and what the grass is doing, and we will tell you straight whether this is the right tool.
Is the price in New Zealand dollars?
Yes. Every price and checkout total is in NZD.
What does delivery cost?
Free when your goods total after any discount is $60 or more. Under that, delivery is a flat $22.
How long does delivery take?
Allow 24-48 hours for handling, then an estimated 5-7 days in transit. These are estimates, not a promised arrival date.
Can I use the valued-customer code?
Yes. It takes 15% off the goods. Delivery is not discounted, and free delivery is worked out on the discounted goods total.
How do I track my order?
Use the Order Tracking page with the details we send after dispatch. If anything looks stuck, email us with your order reference.
Can I return it if I change my mind?
Yes, within 15 days of receipt, as long as it is unused and in original resaleable condition with proof of purchase. A $59 restocking fee and return postage apply to eligible change-of-mind returns. Your statutory rights are separate.
What if it arrives damaged or wrong?
Email us with your order reference and a couple of photos. The change-of-mind fee does not apply to faulty, damaged or incorrect goods, and your Consumer Guarantees Act rights are unaffected.
Can I cancel before it ships?
Contact us as soon as you can. The voluntary cancellation policy allows requests within 12 hours before shipment and provides for a 12.5% processing fee. Statutory remedies are unaffected.
I have a big project. Can you help?
Yes. Use the wholesale enquiry page and tell us the products, quantities and your delivery postcode.
Where do I get help?
Email theteam@customersupport.care or use the Contact page. Include the product name and your question, plus your order reference if you have one.

Dethatching rake: the complete guide
3 min readLawnEdge New Zealand
Thatch is the brown, spongy layer that builds up between the soil and the green grass. A little is normal. More than a centimetre of it blocks water, air and feed from reaching the roots, and the lawn thins out no matter how much you feed it. A dethatching rake pulls that layer out.
Specifications
19 curved, double-sided tines
Carbon steel head, heat-treated and powder-coated to resist rust
Stainless steel handle in four sections, set to your height
Adjustable head angle
Comes apart for transport and storage
How to use it
Check the lawn. Push a finger into the turf. A spongy brown layer more than a centimetre thick means it is time.
Pick the season. Dethatch when the grass is growing strongly, so it recovers fast. Spring or early autumn suits most New Zealand lawns.
Water the day before if the ground is dry, so the tines get in.
Build the handle to a comfortable height and set the head angle.
With the thatch side of the head down, pull the rake towards you in short, firm strokes. Work the lawn in sections.
Rake up the loosened thatch and compost it.
Flip the head to the soil side to loosen the surface before you overseed or feed.
What to expect
The lawn looks rough for a week or two after dethatching. That is normal. Some live grass comes out with the dead, and what is left gets the water and air it has been missing. Feed and water afterwards and it comes back thicker.
Where it works
Any lawn you can walk on. It also clears leaves, twigs and debris, loosens soil for seeding, and works compost or fertiliser into the surface.
Is it right for the job?
It is a manual rake, so a big lawn is a workout. Do it in sections across a few days. If your problem is the edge rather than the lawn, see the half moon edger or the wheel edger instead.
Looking after it
Knock the grass off the tines, wipe the head, and store it dry. Check the handle sections are locked before each use. Take the handle apart if space is tight.
