Our flexible edging comes with three spikes per metre. That is enough for a straight run in firm soil. A tight curve, soft ground or a bed that gets a lot of foot traffic wants more.

Our flexible edging comes with three spikes per metre. That is enough for a straight run in firm soil. A tight curve, soft ground or an edge that gets kicked wants more, and this is where you get them.

They are the same spiral stakes. The twist grips the soil and resists frost heave, and the plastic composite will not rust or peel. Tap them in with a rubber mallet and they stay.

They do more than edging. Pin down weed mat, artificial turf, paver edging, tree ties and tent pegs. Pull them out at the end of the job and use them again.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are these spikes for?

Anchoring garden edging, mostly our flexible plastic edging on curves or soft ground where the included spikes are not enough. They also pin down weed mat, artificial turf and paver edging.

Do I need extra spikes?

For a straight run in firm soil, the three per metre included with the flexible edging usually do. Add extras for tight curves, sandy or soft soil, or anywhere the edging gets knocked.

Which pack size should I pick?

Count the extra spikes you need and round up. A 10 pack covers a few curves, a 50 pack a decent bed, and a 100 pack a whole garden or a weed mat job.

How do I use them?

Push the spike through the edging or mat and tap it into prepared soil with a rubber mallet. Space them about every 60-90cm along landscape edging, closer on curves, and about every 45cm on paver edging.

Do they fit other brands of edging?

They anchor any edging with a slot or a lip they can pass through. Check the hole size on your edging before ordering a big pack.

Will they rust?

No. They are plastic composite, so they do not rust, peel or corrode in wet soil.

What is the spiral for?

Grip. The twist holds in the soil and resists frost heave far better than a smooth stake, so edging stays down through winter.

How much does it cost?

10 Pack: $9; 50 Pack: $39; 100 Pack: $60. Delivery is free once your order is $60 or more. Under $60 it is a flat $22.

Are there other sizes or options?

Three pack sizes, 10, 50 or 100 spikes. Pick the pack before you add it to your basket and the price updates.

What do the photos show?

The spikes and how they sit through edging and mat. Edging, mat and garden props are not included unless listed.

Which specs should I check before I buy?

Pack size (10, 50 or 100) and that your edging has a slot the spike can pass through. If anything is unclear, ask us first.

How do I work out how many I need?

Measure the run and allow one spike every 60-90cm, closer on curves and in soft ground. Subtract any spikes already included with your edging, then check your basket before paying.

Can I order more than one pack?

Yes. Set the quantity on this page or change it in your basket.

Will they work in my soil?

They go into prepared soil and clay with a mallet. They will not go through rock, so shift the spike to miss a stone or lift the stone out.

How should I prepare the ground?

Loosen the line, clear large stones and check for shallow pipes or cables before you tap spikes in.

Any safety tips while fitting them?

Use a rubber mallet, not a steel hammer, and tap rather than whack so the spike does not split. Wear gloves and keep kids and pets clear.

What if the ground is hard or stony?

Water the line the day before so the soil is softer, and move the spike a few centimetres if it hits a stone. Do not force it.

Can I reuse them?

Yes. Pull them out when you re-lay edging and use them again. Store them dry in the shed.

Can I use them for anything else?

Yes. They also hold down tree ties, lawn ornaments, tents and inflatables.

Can I check they will suit my edging before I buy?

Yes. Send us the edging type or a photo of the slot, and we will tell you straight.

Is the price in New Zealand dollars?

Yes. Every price and checkout total is in NZD.

What does delivery cost?

Free when your goods total after any discount is $60 or more. Under that, delivery is a flat $22.

How long does delivery take?

Allow 24-48 hours for handling, then an estimated 5-7 days in transit. These are estimates, not a promised arrival date.

Can I use the valued-customer code?

Yes. It takes 15% off the goods. Delivery is not discounted, and free delivery is worked out on the discounted goods total.

How do I track my order?

Use the Order Tracking page with the details we send after dispatch. If anything looks stuck, email us with your order reference.

Can I return it if I change my mind?

Yes, within 15 days of receipt, as long as it is unused and in original resaleable condition with proof of purchase. A $59 restocking fee and return postage apply to eligible change-of-mind returns. Your statutory rights are separate.

What if it arrives damaged or wrong?

Email us with your order reference and a couple of photos. The change-of-mind fee does not apply to faulty, damaged or incorrect goods, and your Consumer Guarantees Act rights are unaffected.

Can I cancel before it ships?

Contact us as soon as you can. The voluntary cancellation policy allows requests within 12 hours before shipment and provides for a 12.5% processing fee. Statutory remedies are unaffected.

I have a big project. Can you help?

Yes. Use the wholesale enquiry page and tell us the products, quantities and your delivery postcode.

Where do I get help?

Email theteam@customersupport.care or use the Contact page. Include the product name and your question, plus your order reference if you have one.

Edging spikes: the complete guide

How to use them

  1. Clear the line and lay your edging, mat or turf where you want it.
  2. Push the spike through the slot in the edging, or straight through the mat.
  3. Tap it in with a rubber mallet until the head sits flush. Tap, do not whack, or the head splits.
  4. Space them about every 60-90cm along landscape edging, closer on curves and in soft ground, and about every 45cm on paver edging.
  5. Backfill soil or bark against the edging to lock everything in.

How many do I need?

Measure the run and allow one spike every 60-90cm for a straight line in firm soil. Double that on tight curves or sandy ground. Subtract the three per metre already included with the flexible plastic edging and round up to the nearest pack.

Where they work

Flexible garden edging, first and foremost. Weed mat under bark or gravel. Artificial turf edges. Paver edging. Tree ties, lawn ornaments, tents and inflatables. Anything that needs pinning to soil.

Hard ground

They go into prepared soil and clay with a mallet. They will not go through rock. If a spike stops, move it a few centimetres to miss the stone. Watering the line the day before softens things up.

Looking after them

Pull them out when you re-lay edging and use them again. Store them dry in the shed. Check they are still firm after a hard frost and tap any loose ones back in.
